MAKING JEWELRY! AND RE-PURPOSING ITEMS FOR CRAFTS...

Busy, busy, busy!  I have been working my little fingers off over here in Virginia, which has finally been blessing with something resembling winter!  I love the cold weather, mostly because I love snuggling under a blankie with a hot cup of tea.  So what have I been up to?  I have been making jewelry!  I am getting better and better at it, proof that practice makes perfect.  I also have caught the re-purposing fever.  Everything I see is starting to look like something I can use to craft with.  Read more to see my latest jewelry designs and to get the skinny on my re-purposing efforts...

I have really developed a love of making jewelry.  It is terribly addictive!  There is a huge amount of information  available on the web for beginners, so if you have ever wanted to try it, don't worry!  You can find anything you need to know, and for free, which is one of my favorite words!  I thought I would use my first jewelry post just to show you the things I have been making.  Then as I become more comfortable with my skill, I will post some tutorials of my original work!  I hope you like my offerings!
OH MY!  This is not jewelry, this is a pile of dogs!

These are called "Sensibility" from about.com

One of my own designs, simple but pretty!

I made these for my sister Mandy!

A memory wire necklace for my daughter, I love this one!

I made these for my sister Jaymie, I hope she likes them!

These are made from "Ladder Yarn".  They weren't all quite finished yet!

I adore these two necklaces!  I finally mastered the coil!

Those are my latest jewelry projects!  I have more in the works, it is really rewarding to put something together so quickly that you absolutely adore!  I find it quite personal as you pick out each bead and adornment for a piece.  It is a lovely craft and I am looking forward to learning more and more!

The other thing I wanted to talk to you about today is re-purposing items for crafting.  I have recently started looking at everyday things a bit differently.  When I start to put something in the trash I look at it and I ask myself, "Self, is there something about what I am tossing that I could use for crafting?"  I am almost obsessed and afraid I am turning into one of those people you see on TV, a hoarder!  Luckily the hubs is here to temper my new-found thriftiness!  Although, we have some pillows that we never use and he just a few moments ago asked me if I could turn them into something else!  Yikes!  He has the fever too!  I am limiting myself to only saving what I can fit into my small craft corner.  That way you won't see me featured on an A&E special, "Hoarding: Arts and Crafts Edition"!!!  Do you save strange things?  Are you in danger of becoming a hoarder?  I just look at it like I am saving money on supplies while also helping save the earth, right?
Happy Hoarding  Re-Purposing!
Love and Hugs,
Jillie

  3. Stainless Steel Jewelry has the added advantage of being a more rugged alloy than gold or silver as it is nearly indestructible. Stainless steel jewelry is naturally hypo-allergic. Stainless steel jewelry's rise to fame and popularity is not really surprising; primarily because of the price difference between stainless steel jewelry and a lot of the other jewelry types that are sold in dominant market share positions today.

  4. I wear stainless steel earrings because I am allergic to gold and silver. I can wear base metals for short time periods, but gold and silver give me a rash! Thanks for the comment!
