<span style="font-size: large;">Well the time has come to say good-bye, and hello! Let me explain...My hubs and I have been travelling the craft show circuit for about a year now, which is why I have neglected this blog so much. We have both been busy as bees making our little hearts out for our new venture, Jack & Jill's All Tied Up. I will be closing this blog in favor of our new All Tied Up blog. Don't worry...I won't neglect that one! We also have opened an Etsy store and would love if you stopped by and checked it out! The blog is at: <a href="http://jacknjillsalltiedup.blogspot.com/">http://jacknjillsalltiedup.blogspot.com/</a> and the Etsy shop, Jack & Jill's All Tied Up is at: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/JacknJillsAllTiedUp">https://www.etsy.com/shop/JacknJillsAllTiedUp</a> hope to see you on the other side!</span></div>

<br />
This new year brings with it so many opportunities to get out of life what we want. I love the fresh start a new beginning brings! Read on to see what crafty goodness I have planned for the New Year!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>If you are a follower of Makings & Musings, you know this blog has been neglected for almost a full year! I think you will be pleased at what the new and improved blog will bring this year. First let me catch you up on what I have been up to since we last met.<br />
<br />
Over the past year I have tried many new things! I started Jewelry Design School at The New York Institute of Art & Design. I am about 1/2 way through and have learned so many new things! It is definitely worthwhile and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to take their jewelry making to the next level. A word of caution, though the design principles you learn can be applied to any medium, the majority of the lessons are focused on wire work. That is great for me, as I am a bead weaver and glad to diversify my bag of tricks!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The second thing that the last year brought to me is the opportunity to begin selling my goods on the Craft Fair Circuit! What a blast we have had! We have learned lots, mostly through trial and error, made some money, and met a group of fantastic people! It has been a lot more work than I ever anticipated, and there were days when I just wanted to give up, but I am glad we ventured out into this arena and I look forward to sharing these adventures with you!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi951ERhqyOrqcvlBpy9BoiDmhJ5aWr9YfBMsnKQNPyK6kgbw-BdmFinXHCvSw5_QJo9sIp4HXf6jRJ2NttT2JkW5Y4rk5rHYOAmJq03NHCuCjjW1rq45tKbPAxJvFZVC5SzIdCaY5iMEs/s1600/IMG_0013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi951ERhqyOrqcvlBpy9BoiDmhJ5aWr9YfBMsnKQNPyK6kgbw-BdmFinXHCvSw5_QJo9sIp4HXf6jRJ2NttT2JkW5Y4rk5rHYOAmJq03NHCuCjjW1rq45tKbPAxJvFZVC5SzIdCaY5iMEs/s400/IMG_0013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I keep saying "we", so I should introduce the third wonderful thing last year brought to me...my hubs began making para-cord jewelry and other items, so it is now a joint venture! We have the best time travelling about together to hit the next show! He is amazingly talented, and I never even knew! We call ourselves "All Tied Up". The name is a nod to his knotted bracelets and other wares, and to us being tied together. It's a blast! Hopefully I can talk him into a guest post here and there!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mOZw-z_-3xEUOLzJWn5I19pOBIzddnW5fW1cJhO1gPvYrguTU0wQgF1nbrw0WUiLIz-j80pYNKrzil_u4yAobT8NglyT6v5G8I8lEjwT8yNh9czmKK8mZIYIH5MbAidd2dJ-FTSYvd0/s1600/IMG_0016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mOZw-z_-3xEUOLzJWn5I19pOBIzddnW5fW1cJhO1gPvYrguTU0wQgF1nbrw0WUiLIz-j80pYNKrzil_u4yAobT8NglyT6v5G8I8lEjwT8yNh9czmKK8mZIYIH5MbAidd2dJ-FTSYvd0/s400/IMG_0016.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I have learned lots of things over the past year, I can't wait to share all my tips and tricks with you! I am going to focus on jewelry making exclusively, and share my designs, as well as lessons on how to navigate the craft fair circuit, and many other hard learned lessons! I hope you will find my makings & musings useful!<br />
<br />
Check back each week to see what I am up to!<br />

Oh my dear readers! I have neglected my blog the past few weeks and I hate that, but sometimes it can't be helped. I have some exciting things planned for the New Year and I can't wait to share them with you! Also, I have been losing weight (Yay!) thanks to Jorge Cruise and his Body Fat Cure, and this morning I had a fantastic breakfast that I wanted to share. Read on past the break for all the details!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib2ZREs36DSR5Z7KnpuV4jBm6VlkCngB2SlJa8LHL8yatQtZzElC4444Y-wW5byjWAyTek0lHDUJroeE02q4GDpKaT_CEva_f2O1jqreiHJw4_ukdKv-zDSofZfetXeJqX_T9Uh5pXUvc/s1600/happy_holidays_599.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib2ZREs36DSR5Z7KnpuV4jBm6VlkCngB2SlJa8LHL8yatQtZzElC4444Y-wW5byjWAyTek0lHDUJroeE02q4GDpKaT_CEva_f2O1jqreiHJw4_ukdKv-zDSofZfetXeJqX_T9Uh5pXUvc/s320/happy_holidays_599.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Well, I have lost 38 lbs following the Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise. I love it, it is a modified low-carb lifestyle, but it emphasizes good carbs and all carbs in moderation. I have never once felt deprived on the plan and it is definitely doable for life. That said, I have about 30 lbs to go, I will keep you updated on my progress.<br />
<br />
This morning I had a fabulous breakfast. I just made up a recipe as I went and it was a very happy morning because I had "French Toast"! Here is my recipe, just think, I cared enough to share it with you guys!<br />
<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">French Toast-like Muffins</span></b><br />
<br />
ΒΌ Cup Ground Flax Seed<br />
2 TBS Low-Carb Baking Mix (I use Bob's Red Mill)<br />
1 TBS Coconut Oil<br />
1TBS Butter<br />
6 Drops of 2 TBS Sugar Equivalent<br />
1 tsp baking powder<br />
Pinch of Salt<br />
Large Egg<br />
Optional: Butter for frying<br />
A Large Coffee Mug<br />
Sugar-Free Pancake Syrup for topping (be careful, even though its sugar-free, its pretty carby at 11gms per serving! You really need very little, that way it is not so bad).<br />
<br />
1. Melt Butter and Coconut Oil in mug<br />
2. Add Egg and mix very well<br />
3. Add Flax and Baking Mix stir well<br />
4. Add Baking Soda and pinch of Salt stir really well<br />
5. Cook in Nuker for 2-2:30 mins.<br />
6. Either cut in half and drizzle with syrup -or- for a special treat slice into 3rds and fry in butter on the stove, then top with syrup.<br />
This tastes exactly like real french toast! It is my new fave.<br />
Do let me know if you try it! <br />
<br />
<br />
As I still have not found my camera, I have no pictures. I asked Santa for a new one, let's hope he comes through for me, I have been pretty good so far, lol!<br />
<br />
In other news, I wanted to let you know that I have a plan for the new year. I recently picked up a kindle book called 365: A Daily Creative Journal - Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life. It is written by Noah Scalin and is available at Amazon. Any hoo, I thought it would be fun to follow along in the book and post my progress here. So that is what the major plan is for 2013. I hope you will continue to read and we can learn and grow together.<br />
<br />
In the best news, my lovely hubs is taking me on a Caribbean Cruise for my birthday, which is December 18th. We are leaving from Baltimore, and I cannot wait for this!!! We booked it in January, so it has been a long time coming! At any rate, I will be missing most of December, but stay tuned, cause 2013 is gonna be the best year yet for Makings and Musings! <br />

<br />
Hello my friends! I a confession to make. I have recently come to the realization that I am a pattern hoarder. Yes, that's right, when I see a pattern, be it crochet, jewelry, or other crafts, I have to have it! I suppose the first step is admitting you have a problem, right? Read on to discover my adventures in pattern addiction, and how I am trying to recover!!!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8EwSXRTXp2bHQzUwNlohY8yhy4ShMVngGPAJOoMG6QZSJiOR2dXc8511Oi_6MD1m06k4_WTapGgk904l5FVADe4P-WKnzIzoHUTMFa1qJUC5ecYpPJXNpz4oIAuBFROuoM9fSBtutyo/s1600/images.jpg"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8EwSXRTXp2bHQzUwNlohY8yhy4ShMVngGPAJOoMG6QZSJiOR2dXc8511Oi_6MD1m06k4_WTapGgk904l5FVADe4P-WKnzIzoHUTMFa1qJUC5ecYpPJXNpz4oIAuBFROuoM9fSBtutyo/s200/images.jpg" width="132" /></a></div>

<br />
What a problem! Yesterday I decided that I was going to spend the day with my bead stash. I pulled out my beads, opened up some files on my computer, and then...yep, I sat there paralyzed, looking at my computer screen. The problem? I am a pattern hoarder! There, I said it. I have so many patterns, it is difficult to decide what I want to make! I would never think having lots of options is a bad thing, but in this case, it really caused me some sort of crafters block. I sat there contemplating what I wanted to do, and before I knew it, it was time to put the stash away and bring the dogs in for the night! Determined not to waste another perfectly good crafty day again, I decided to figure out how to continue to hoard my precious patterns, but in a way that wouldn't cause me such consternation. What I came up with...the solution to my pattern hoarding is... ORGANIZATION!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJvaoHD-EBJsm2XRQzdUenfyTti9g6OKaZM7I3ErXJ5uEtTmkQjO6WTXabR4lTNInVb3eGjNedaxSVktRXjzeTHQunqwf_VVetKQK8nWZmFjO_tcexZGy2Mce1oComrI84tTcV54jyQHI/s1600/storage-home-organizers-and-storage-files.jpg"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJvaoHD-EBJsm2XRQzdUenfyTti9g6OKaZM7I3ErXJ5uEtTmkQjO6WTXabR4lTNInVb3eGjNedaxSVktRXjzeTHQunqwf_VVetKQK8nWZmFjO_tcexZGy2Mce1oComrI84tTcV54jyQHI/s200/storage-home-organizers-and-storage-files.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
That's right ladies and gentlemen! Time to organize my digital patterns. I am still not finished, but I made a pretty good dent in it, I would hope so, since I spent the vast majority of 3 days on it! The funny thing is, I just caught myself looking for more patterns! I got this addiction BAD!!!<br />
<br />
So I will keep working on my hoarding problem, but in the meantime, I thought I would share some of my favorite places to find patterns for jewelry making. That way more people can become addicted and I won't look so bad, right? <br />
<br />
There are some sites that are expressly for patterns. Here is one of my favorites:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.jewelrylessons.com/"><img border="0" height="75" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtDu4xtFHORGIhulAMA-HfctT7cmiCiPrEsVgcerezirHpYpXKCsHJXLNtcC-BJLrdHrI0Ufo7Qa-B2b2DexxjX10052zCGFyFJHMOhHHspSrJFRE8j2JfLH5FHf847FXtVoPOF5-JL0o/s400/7-27-2012+10-55-20+AM.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br /></div>
<a href="http://www.jewelrylessons.com/">Jewelry Lessons</a> is a website that describes itself as "...a highly specialized online community which not only helps to share knowledge about jewelry making but also EMPOWERS users with REAL REWARDS." Sounds great, right? It really is! And one of the best parts of this site is that it keeps a record of your purchases, so you can go back and re-download them when you lose all your files because your computer crashes...er...yes, that happened to me last week!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0ruQn-Mr10dMdJSZ9Bq8K6j-Th5DnrxN2gRz3A-Q0Vlma5qUNZviE9RNQJy4wNRm3lIPNPNWIFMH0bQfftkqDJwd_roupqy3Hw5PEe5yPCMb-yWOkP7ogo4UdpmYbl10NkU_4Oh0tEEk/s1600/headerLeft.png"><img border="0" height="114" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0ruQn-Mr10dMdJSZ9Bq8K6j-Th5DnrxN2gRz3A-Q0Vlma5qUNZviE9RNQJy4wNRm3lIPNPNWIFMH0bQfftkqDJwd_roupqy3Hw5PEe5yPCMb-yWOkP7ogo4UdpmYbl10NkU_4Oh0tEEk/s200/headerLeft.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.sova-enterprises.com/catalog/index.php">SOVA Enterprises</a> is another terrific website that offers patterns, some for a fee and some free! The website states, "We are proud to unite over 130 craft designers from around the world with craft enthusiasts world wide." I highly recommend this website and its affiliate sites as well. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVg0ymzXzrRF_DBvkvcj4zIf5TNpeVkCWixZM3DIAzvKfOWzlOsvcHABHVPqUosSMLgbDAJHJ5ssijQyiytFuDtAWiMIu9_JT-Czzli2iPRxJ62BJOosgQIkTdC7-OdjS3xzIbCsjmjlw/s1600/craftsy-logo.png"><img border="0" height="98" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVg0ymzXzrRF_DBvkvcj4zIf5TNpeVkCWixZM3DIAzvKfOWzlOsvcHABHVPqUosSMLgbDAJHJ5ssijQyiytFuDtAWiMIu9_JT-Czzli2iPRxJ62BJOosgQIkTdC7-OdjS3xzIbCsjmjlw/s200/craftsy-logo.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.craftsy.com/patterns">Craftsy</a> is another website offering patterns for free as well as for fee. There are tons of designers to choose from and I personally have a hard time resisting almost all of them!<br />
<br />
That is it for now, gonna try to get my pattern sorting finished today, I am getting close! I know I promised some bracelet bases and embellishments for this post, but my visitors just left and I had a doctor appointment this morning so I haven't had time to get to it. I got great news, my lump in my breast is totally benign, so I just have to keep an eye on it and it should be good to go!<br />
<br />

<br />
On that note, here is a link to a breast cancer awareness design. This design is brought to you by <a href="http://www.favecrafts.com/Bracelets/Crystal-Breast-Cancer-Awareness-Bracelet#">FAVECRAFTS</a>, another great place to get patterns, and they are all free! For real!<br />

Well I didn't keep up with my schedule this week, but I had visitors, my daughter Amber and her friend Lauren were here, and we got to meet our grand dog Ellie for the first time! She was such a cutie pie, and very rambunctious Puppy kisses are the best! The cats were not too thrilled to meet her, but all in all it was a great visit, which it always is anytime we get to see our Amber! We are so incredibly proud of the way Amber has grown up and can't say enough about how well she has done for herself!<br />
On another topic, I managed to catch up everything on the blog, excepting my crafty post for Thursday. which I actually wrote a step-by-step tutorial for, but I didn't get a chance to take pictures. I am gonna save it for this coming week, and I know it is a project you will love! Thanks for reading my little corner of the web!<br />
Happy Weekend!<br />

I have lots and lots of crochet projects that I want to do for Christmas. One thing I find really frustrating is that it is hard to find crochet patterns that are manly. Not that I am hung up on gender roles, but I just don't think men should walk around wearing a toque with a silly fluffy ball on top! Never fear, I have gone out and done the leg work for you, read on for the manly man projects I have tracked down for you!<br />

With names like Grizzly, Sparro, A/C Metrical, and Burley, Rohn Strong features patterns that your menfolk will not just wear to please you, they will actually like them! The last pattern I will feature today is for slippers. Not any ordinary slippers though, these are manly slippers. Stitched to look like loafers, these will be sure to get lots of wear by your manly man! This pattern was skillfully created by Jennette Reid for her hubs. The pattern can be found on Ravelry <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anatomy-of-a-loafer-aka-manly-loafers" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Everyone knows that once you retire, you get fat! It happens to the best of us, and unfortunately, it has happened to my hubs and I! Have no fear, we are making awesome progress following Jorge Cruise's Belly Fat Cure. Hubs has lost around 60 lbs and I have lost 30. We enjoy real food and don't feel deprived! This is truly a way you can eat for a life time! Read more if you would like to learn more about The Belly Fat Cure!<br />

<br />
<a name='more'></a>BFC (Belly Fat Cure) is easy to follow and takes the weight off fast! I can say this since I have been successful with it. This is a <a href="http://www.thebellyfatcure.com/fe/19421-the-science" target="_blank">LINK</a> to Jorge's website where you can read all about it. The basic system boils down to staying in the guidelines of 15 grams of sugar per day, and 6 servings of carbohydrates. In the evening you can have some dark chocolate, and you can even drink red wine if you like. I highly recommend it!<div>
<br /><br />
The following is a recipe for Jorge's 3-Minute Muffin, which I use as a treat in the evenings:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
Ingredients:<br /><br />3 Tbs Ground Flax seed<br />1 tsp coconut or olive oil or butter<br />1 tsp baking powder<br />1 egg</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Mix all your ingredients in a coffee mug, you may need to melt the butter or coconut oil before mixing. Make sure to get the lumps of baking powder incorporated really well. Put it in the microwave mine for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. It is really good if you add cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nuts, chunks of dark chocolate, etc. Use your imagination, staying within your 15/6 for the day!</div>

Jill's Necklace Base:<br />

I would use what I call CROSS WEAVE for the necklace base.<br />

CROSS WEAVE, BRICK STITCH, or PEYOTE all make great bracelet bases.<br />

<br />
Get creative with this one!<br />
<br />
I will put up pics of the actual base pieces next week, as I have gotten some unexpected company and have not been able to get to making them! Part II will have pics and instructions!<br />
<br />
I hope you use these to start making your own designs! Coming up with the concept of making a base and then embellishing has freed me to start designing my own jewelry instead of always using other people's patterns. Nothing wrong with using patterns, but sometimes you want to design your very own! Next week I will show you how I embellished the three bases above, and show you some other base stitches that I like to use.<br />
<br />
Happy Embellishing!<br />

This is my first posting under my new format so I am super excited to be kicking it off! While I was wondering what I would write about today I started thinking about how every time you want to try something new (like making your own cosmetics) you end up having to buy specialized ingredients and concoctions, which are pricey and who knows? You may decide that making your own is not for you, then you are left with a drawer full of supplies you will never use. As I was thinking about how to overcome this problem, it came to me: Franken-make up! You already have a drawer full of make up, right? Before making any costly investments, why not experiment with what you already have. Read on for some tips on how to make your very own Franken-make up, customized just for you!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirhC_xU9WX0tkOdI1OUlLQz_wJ0L05JeupWv2eP8pH2oqoPOqLTYmYR2JbOVUiQ-mFREmp5-fWX4leCNR9PcJ6_6bXwbPnZU1OgbYx9sO78Dmd6UQRZ1Hu2LHVhuHvBl6qobETYJvNW7U/s1600/Beauty+shad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirhC_xU9WX0tkOdI1OUlLQz_wJ0L05JeupWv2eP8pH2oqoPOqLTYmYR2JbOVUiQ-mFREmp5-fWX4leCNR9PcJ6_6bXwbPnZU1OgbYx9sO78Dmd6UQRZ1Hu2LHVhuHvBl6qobETYJvNW7U/s1600/Beauty+shad.jpg" /></a></div>

<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Franken-make up! How I love inventing new words! But I am not talking about make up for Halloween nope, I am talking about taking what you already have and making it better. First lets learn a little about color, since if you don't know what colors mix to make other colors, you might end up with a lot of brown pots of eye shadow!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OUEC28A5NlS5zD7nGG5MyDcmMmJRtryYt0iO1qJrBpp51OoxMPl0RJh0EzSgzUGHSGORqhmsJDRjkgrqUEVl2aBJB7UldPel7X6HiEOkyFZddUcvjK22SxY-d6Ls6v258A3HimuKKS4/s1600/bride+of+frankestein.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OUEC28A5NlS5zD7nGG5MyDcmMmJRtryYt0iO1qJrBpp51OoxMPl0RJh0EzSgzUGHSGORqhmsJDRjkgrqUEVl2aBJB7UldPel7X6HiEOkyFZddUcvjK22SxY-d6Ls6v258A3HimuKKS4/s1600/bride+of+frankestein.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, I was an art student for several years, I ended up changing my major to Marketing, but that's a story for another time. Since I studied art for several years color mixing comes second nature to me. It is easy for me to forget that not everyone knows that yellow and blue make green! I won't get into ridiculous detail, but a little instruction is called for, and besides, this can be useful in many areas of your crafty life, so let's get started.<br />
<br />
There are three PRIMARY colors. Primary means that you cannot mix colors to make these colors. They are "prime", hence primary! The primary colors are Red, Blue, and Yellow.<br />
<br />
There are also what is called SECONDARY colors. These are the colors that you get when you mix two of<br />
the PRIMARY colors. For instance: Red and Blue make Violet, Blue and Yellow make Green, and Red and Yellow make Orange.<br />
<br />
Then, you guessed it, there are TERTIARY colors. These are what you get when mixing the PRIMARY colors with the SECONDARY colors. They are: Red and Orange make RedβOrange, Red and Violet make RedβViolet, Yellow and Orange make YellowβOrange, Yellow and Green make YellowβGreen, Blue and Violet make BlueβViolet, and Blue and Green make BlueβGreen. Whew!<br />
<br />
It's important to know the relationships of the colors. Colors can be CONTRASTING or COMPLEMENTARY. CONTRASTING colors are found across from each other on the color wheel. COMPLEMENTARY colors are located next to each other. Let's take a look:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierMyGQI8rKFBB-X-rf6AWlWGBagy2ddjXq1t6zJwTYlse3DNfUuVi5mKG2Lkj5Zhg2xBJCPPN0gI5WGt6t5HUoUnkxv6_7egwmaMgV89eGVsp7QyvXBgxT8AoH2hQt11dh_QQWvSxQ_E/s1600/colorwheel.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierMyGQI8rKFBB-X-rf6AWlWGBagy2ddjXq1t6zJwTYlse3DNfUuVi5mKG2Lkj5Zhg2xBJCPPN0gI5WGt6t5HUoUnkxv6_7egwmaMgV89eGVsp7QyvXBgxT8AoH2hQt11dh_QQWvSxQ_E/s320/colorwheel.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although this simple color wheel is not labeled, it demonstrates the relationships of the PRIMARY (the inner ring), SECONDARY (the second ring), and TERTIARY (the outer ring). Look at the outer ring, which are the TERTIARY colors, and select one color for this example. The colors to the left and right of your selected color are the COMPLEMENTARY colors to your original color. Now look directly diagonally across from your color. That color is the CONTRASTING color to your color. Get it?<br />
<br />
See, this stuff is easy. Oh, three more simple color principles last thing in our little lesson. SATURATION, HUE, and VALUE. <br />
SATURATION refers to how heavily pigmented a color is. In the example below all the colors shown are the same color, Red. The changes in how the color looks are due to less pigmentation. The left side is very saturated, as opposed to the right side, which has little pigment in it and is referred to as de-saturated.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-JQlKJTb7eZ59U73oJrQ_HQMMP7z43mo2apGOqrKz1NZYxLCeQFU-OT536FY42mvs8dp2l-56bljsigwJZW_RlMiFS77BLe93MK1eA29PijOPOnO8YFdz1OBsrNsEORtorrZSkM9mEyM/s1600/color_saturation.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-JQlKJTb7eZ59U73oJrQ_HQMMP7z43mo2apGOqrKz1NZYxLCeQFU-OT536FY42mvs8dp2l-56bljsigwJZW_RlMiFS77BLe93MK1eA29PijOPOnO8YFdz1OBsrNsEORtorrZSkM9mEyM/s320/color_saturation.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
HUE refers to the shade of the color, as in light-green, apple green, and pine green are all green, they are just different hues. The chart below illustrates the concept of HUE.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgObx6xTVMcmEXcppoknFkpsFXzJ-SI2xo3cfBjgm7Kex5_SoAssjYbVgGc0ObT5QtGTpbOV9LAhfveuK4igRwTnd09-2M29-DJ3ZpJ4Ddmu9k4woOxY0qlO2-_wvSxRnvO_XtUMClX7i4/s1600/img_hue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgObx6xTVMcmEXcppoknFkpsFXzJ-SI2xo3cfBjgm7Kex5_SoAssjYbVgGc0ObT5QtGTpbOV9LAhfveuK4igRwTnd09-2M29-DJ3ZpJ4Ddmu9k4woOxY0qlO2-_wvSxRnvO_XtUMClX7i4/s1600/img_hue.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
VALUE simply refers to how light or dark your color is. Here is a little secret: to increase the VALUE of a color, simply add black. To decrease the VALUE, add white!<br />
<br />
Okay, that sums up our color lesson. The things that are most important to remember for our purposes are:<br />
1. If you mix CONTRASTING colors you will end up with a HUE of....Brown! Unless this is what you are going for, avoid it!<br />
2. COMPLEMENTARY colors can be mixed with lovely results, as well as any color and Black or White. Just use a small amount to experiment with before you mix an entire batch, you might end up with something you hate, and that way you won't waste much!<br />
3. Don't spend hours trying to make Yellow, Blue, or Red. They are PRIMARY colors and cannot be mixed!<br />
<br />
Part II of this post will be actually mixing and making Franken-make up! Stay tuned for next week's post!<br />

Well, its not by chance that the month of September whooshed past me without a blog post. I have been working on a new concept for Makings and Musings. A concept where there will be more, uh, makings, and more musings! Read on for more info on my plans, and to see what the upcoming months have in store for this blog!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been blogging for over a year now. While it has been fun, I really thought that I would have a ton of readers and have made lots of internet buddies who were interested in the same things I like. I am grateful for the readers who have continued to read my tiny little piece of the internet! But it is time to get back to why I started this blog in the first place. I was struggling with my depression, anxiety, and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I spent days and days doing nothing but lying in bed and staring at the television. I needed to find something to do that would make me feel useful, alive again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was an art student many, many moons ago. I have always adored creative endeavors of any type. As I randomly surfed the Internet one morning, I happened upon some very good crafty blogs. It occurred to me, I can do that! I love to write, I NEED to write to organize the thoughts in my head. I love creating things, lovely things, ugly things, all of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a result of this blog my home is now more homey. There are lovely little touches around that show that the people that live here love it. Before the living room could have been in a vacant house. Now it looks like a lived in home. I spent the last half of last year creating lovely things to give my children, and my siblings for Christmas gifts, and they loved them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So what went wrong? The old sad, depressed me crept back in. I withdrew from everything, including my blog. I started neglecting it, then tried to ignore it. I stopped creating things. Days flew by without even changing clothes or getting out of bed. Sigh...I think the downfall began when I changed the format. Instead of blogging everyday, I started just doing it once a week, then maybe every other week. I actually considered deleting it all together. But a few weeks ago I began to get inspired. My niece and nephew were born and I started crocheting for them. It brought me back to life. Then I turned to look at my craft corner and saw the raw materials for all the projects I planned to make last year. Its time. Its time to break out of this shell and get back on track! I am excited to be creative again and looking forward to blogging all about it. I love my readers and even though they may be few, it doesn't make my blog any less important. And as Dr. Phil says, "I don't need an excuse to sit on the sidelines, I need a purpose to get up and play in the game!" So, without further musings, on Monday next week I am going to reveal the new Makings and Musings. I will be once again blogging everyday, and here is the new (and improved) format:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mondays are designated as Make-up Mondays. This will be focused on creating beautiful make-up and exploring options that are not only gorgeous, but also good for you and your skin. I am no fashion maven, but I may throw a bit about my personal style in for good measure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tuesdays will be all about making jewelry. I have a true passion for jewelry making, sometimes my own designs, sometimes borrowed from others. There will be features on products and trends, and tutorials.</div>

Wednesdays are going to be dedicated to cooking. I used to love to cook, but with my current physical/medical conditions I am unable to cook very often. That doesn't mean I can't share my knowledge of culinary pursuits with you! My household is currently following a fairly low carb lifestyle, so the recipes and techniques I share will be focused on that. Hubs has lost 60 lbs. and I have lost nearly 30, so look for some helpful hints in that area!</div>

Lots of these will be baby themed, with 2 new babies in the family, but I have older kids and siblings to create for as well, so there should be a good variety of tutorials, patterns, etc.</div>

AND OTHER RAVINGS!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
If you have been following along with me you will know I just got a brand new niece. With any luck there will be a nephew in my future too! I always wanted to be the good Auntie. You know, the one who makes things and sends packages and such. I have three sisters and they have been truly fantastic Aunts to my children, what an act to follow! My siblings having children makes me appreciate them in a whole new way. Seeing my brother interact with his daughter was simply a joy, and if the 60,000 pictures I have seen on Facebook are any indication, my sister is being a fantastic mother as well! What does this all have to do with my blog? Well...all these new babies need blankies and clothes and toys, which I can crochet! Read on for the Days of the Week bibs and booties, and of course more of my rantings and ravings!<br />

I started on the Days of the Week Bibs and Booties about the middle of July if memory serves me correctly (and it rarely does these days!). They were pretty easy and worked up super quickly, but there were like a million of them so it took some time! Actually there were 7 bibs and 7 booties. They were supposed to have the days of the week embroidered on them, but I kinda thought that was too much pressure! I mean asking a poor sleep deprived first-time Mother to know what day of the week it is, is a tad bit much! With out further adieu here is my finished product:</div>

Hi all! I was hoping to get a post off sooner than this, but unfortunately I am at the mercy of my back until we fix it, or at least mask the problem! So I will file this under the "Better Late Than Never" category and dredge on with a smile! This week I want to start a segment on Makings and Musings on which I share with you my favorite places to get patterns. I am envisioning this as a once a week offering, please let me know if it is helpful to anyone! Read on to discover my favorite pattern websites, my favorite designers, and there may even be a link to a freebie I found out there on the web!<br />

<br />
Okay, let me first say that I didn't sleep last night due to a sick and vomiting dog, and a creepy person who looked in my front door. All is well now, Sophia is feeling much better and no one broke down my door. Whew! We are just all a little sleepy. In fact I am in my pajamas, still under the covers and that suits me just fine. I was flipping through my Fire Mountain Gems catalog, the thick one that resembles a phone book. That is what reminded me to get this post written! It is really a wonderful reference, and it has tons of eye candy and ideas in it. If you don't have one, trust me, you need one. Click <a href="http://www.firemountaingems.com/catreq.asp?WT.ac=RS1CR111027" target="_blank">HERE</a> to go to the catalog link on their site.<br />
<br />
That was probably all a bit of TMI, but I promise the meat of the post is on its way now! Do you have favorite place to go on the net, or a favorite book or other reference that you use for beading ideas? I do. And now, my dearies, I am going to share them with you!<br />
<br />
The spotlight today is on <a href="http://jewelrylessons.com/">JewelryLessons.com</a> what a wonderful website, with tons and tons of designers contributing to the content. It is updated quite frequently and I find something new every time I go there. There are free patterns as well as patterns you can purchase. With all those contributors how will you ever know where to start? Leave it to Jillie to help show you the way! I am going to share with you my favorite designers on the site! (I hope you are as excited as I am)<br />
<br />
1. EXTRANO - Says she loves beading and has passed this wonderful art down to her daughters! I simply adore the Old World/Victorian look of her pieces. I have inserted two of her patterns, you simply must click on the pics to go check out the rest!<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Hello my friends! Yesterday my baby sister gave birth to a very sweet little girl! It is very exciting and so weird to think of my little sister as a Mother now! She was born when I was 12, so I am a tad bit older than her, lol. I gave her a few handmade items for her baby shower, and am feverishly working on a few more to send up for a "Welcome Home Baby" gift. I now have 3 nieces and a granddaughter, and another one of my sisters will be getting a baby soon too! Whew! All these babies! It got me thinking about children's jewelry. What is safe for them? What will be put away and cherished when they get older? Read on for a few baby projects and some more of my musings on the subject! <br />
<br />

<a name='more'></a>For her baby shower I made her a baby blanket and a cocoon. If you are interested here are a couple of links for the patterns I used:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Easy Baby Blanket: Written By Ro Mashka can be found <a href="http://mashka-romashka.blogspot.com/2010/03/blog-post_26.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>. The website is in Russian, but the pattern is written in English if you scroll down. I neglected to take a picture of the finished blankie, but it is pink and I added a frilly white border around the edge.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Crocheted Newborn Cocoon: I used a kit from Annie's Hook and Needle Club, but this one is very similar, written by Beverly A. Qualheim and it can be found <a href="http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bevs-peapod-cr-cozy.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</div>
<div>
Here are the pics I took:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I am now working on a Hexagon Baby Blanket. I received it as a kit from Annie's Hook and Needle Club, but <a href="http://mannerscrochetandcraft.blogspot.com/2010/06/hexagon-baby-blanket.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> is a very similar pattern. I am using some really soft greenish blue baby yarn. I think it will be fabulous and I will post a picture when I am finished. This is the picture from the website:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_J71n0GZ8X1iDLtxtXxOHFy1kF7AJyM8PWcRxa6Kn8AVZMVx5Mm0a_2jdtv0ZfN0csnhsaCMH_wmMQuEMlGsURyBZMnYfGTF3maYyKWV4ZFjvMsipWmWcfJneWg0KxV87DZoylaYAYjc/s1600/equation_sidebar_learnmore+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_J71n0GZ8X1iDLtxtXxOHFy1kF7AJyM8PWcRxa6Kn8AVZMVx5Mm0a_2jdtv0ZfN0csnhsaCMH_wmMQuEMlGsURyBZMnYfGTF3maYyKWV4ZFjvMsipWmWcfJneWg0KxV87DZoylaYAYjc/s320/equation_sidebar_learnmore+(1).jpg" width="79" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The other project I am working on is a set of seven bibs and booties that coordinate with each other. The pattern is on the Bernat website, so you need an account there, but it is an easy, and of course free sign-up. The pattern is <a href="http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=4048" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Instead of putting the days of the week on them I am applique-ing some cute little motifs on them. The booties are really cute too, and easy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmrUcj36CGEk3HTIOFvIqLk7lDIWjwoJ3Ua2F1jIZsHi7rFWOyw78j86u44xPx0jhyphenhyphenzkkLToZmwQTI465QxU8TsrHNTUNEpagBk2SXvV_H1o3GlAr2eu2H_JgfZFm9Gf5a3MLtTIOGIZg/s1600/image_4048_medium.jpg" style="background-color: white; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmrUcj36CGEk3HTIOFvIqLk7lDIWjwoJ3Ua2F1jIZsHi7rFWOyw78j86u44xPx0jhyphenhyphenzkkLToZmwQTI465QxU8TsrHNTUNEpagBk2SXvV_H1o3GlAr2eu2H_JgfZFm9Gf5a3MLtTIOGIZg/s320/image_4048_medium.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I hope you can use some of those patterns! So...the question of the day is:Since I LOVE making jewelry items, what would be appropriate to send to the new baby? And then what would be good for my grand daughter, who is two? I found these on the Internet:<br />

Hi there lovely readers! Well, my break from blogging is finally over, I think the majority of our out of town trips are through. We did have a great summer! I was reading the Rings and Things blog this morning and they were talking about PINTREST. I am a HUGE fan of Pintrest and I was wondering if it's just me, or is it awesome? Most of my Pins are craft and jewelry making patterns, oh, and lots of crochet patterns too! I would be happy to share with anyone who wants to take a gander, there are thousands and thousands of Pins on my boards, so fair warning, you may get lost for the day in Pintrest land! Its a great place to get ideas and waste some time, lots of time...I also wanted to share a bracelet and earring set that I made that was perfect for spring, summer too! Sorry there is no tutorial, but I will explain what I did, it was pretty simple, so you can make one too! Read on for some jewelry making goodness!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Here we go!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Bracelet:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhacgIXg3xAd1eKYqngR5Z_MrNANcPYA51wFb2O6rJIddsL3oZvJlVbUypwgFklRjU9EMn1HlSeFVG12V672UGeO6q_L9NzpkqXD-SmaUqcHiWz96pmjEB7AjjpoHzxXw2y36VriDFFwo/s1600/DSCN5765.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhacgIXg3xAd1eKYqngR5Z_MrNANcPYA51wFb2O6rJIddsL3oZvJlVbUypwgFklRjU9EMn1HlSeFVG12V672UGeO6q_L9NzpkqXD-SmaUqcHiWz96pmjEB7AjjpoHzxXw2y36VriDFFwo/s640/DSCN5765.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Earrings:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8QBhxoBjNo2DCHB-cbA0PZ0ODwAKR9Bfl1CU44R3JPj8uA9lNGhdBrvQmspAqK-RFS7YM6DIVPJF_O6xBBcG4d3RxgFol8-VYvgHhz503XKkoqIOWMU3MZcOW-qRwq1lssLseG70aPec/s1600/DSCN5755.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8QBhxoBjNo2DCHB-cbA0PZ0ODwAKR9Bfl1CU44R3JPj8uA9lNGhdBrvQmspAqK-RFS7YM6DIVPJF_O6xBBcG4d3RxgFol8-VYvgHhz503XKkoqIOWMU3MZcOW-qRwq1lssLseG70aPec/s640/DSCN5755.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Together!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To make them I simply used a pre-fab silver bracelet, some Czech glass Leaves, a large silver leaf (Blue Moon I think), Earring Posts, and a small bit of chain and jump rings. I also added some little purple Lucite flowers for a bit of contrast.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think you can figure out from here what I did, but I just attached the leaves and flowers with the jump rings (size 6mm). Then I attached the silver leaf in the middle. I like the weight of this bracelet on my wrist.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the earrings I cut 2 small pieces of chain and attached leaves to them. Then I attached the leaves to 2 earring posts. Done! If you have any questions give me a shout and I will try to help!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly, Pintrest requires that you receive an invitation to join, so if there is anyone who wants to open a Pintrest account that doesn't have one yet, I will be happy to send you an invite. Just send me a note!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy Summering everyone! Its too hot out there so stay in and make something creative today!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Love and hugs!<br />Jillie</div>

Hi all! I am back from seeing my step-son graduate from High School in Florida! We are so proud of him! Now I can get back to blogging, which I have definitely missed! I was browsing about the net this morning, looking for bead weaving patterns, which I seem to be hoarding. I haven't been bead weaving for too terribly long, but my searches this morning reminded me of how confusing the different sizes and types of seed beads were for me at the beginning. So I thought I would do a post about them to try and clear it all up for you! Read on for more than you ever wanted to know about seed beads!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: left;">
Ah...seed beads...the tiny little components that make up such wonderful creations! They come in so many sizes, some complete with their own little nick names, no wonder we can find them confusing! This is my attempt at clearing up the madness for you.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
One of the most curious things about seed beads is that they use a numbering system that is counter-intuitive, much like wire. The smaller the number, the larger the bead. Conversely, the larger the number, the smaller the bead. Sounds like its pretty straight forward, but it can get very confusing, especially when just starting out.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here is a rundown of the most commonly used seed beads by size:</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The largest size of a seed bead is 1Β° ("one-aught") it is usually written as 1/0. The smallest size is 24/0, which is about the size of a grain of sand. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>LARGE SEED BEADS</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Seed beads that are size 5/0 or 6/0 (5Β° or 6Β°) are usually called <b>"pony beads"</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next are what are usually called <b>"trade beads"</b>. They are sizes 3/0 and 4/0 (3Β° and 4Β°). The largest seed beads are sizes 1/0 and 2/0 (1Β°and 2Β°). These sizes, and anything larger, are referred to as <b>"crow beads"</b>. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>TAKE AWAY: Pony Beads, Trade Beads, and Crow Beads are all large seed beads not normally used in bead weaving.</b></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieAX7Fpy67c4CpBwLOdEpKAhUmdM28_bI0mqBkKKubIeMTdsx-_h8hYPNeniSgJd3IQ5lMcAv0BBLlklItSCtowvgE9sGyHWLXL_Jz0E3aSWUyfTtPAW2MhJJKOvTU8CfdSVHrAmkQ1-s/s1600/images+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieAX7Fpy67c4CpBwLOdEpKAhUmdM28_bI0mqBkKKubIeMTdsx-_h8hYPNeniSgJd3IQ5lMcAv0BBLlklItSCtowvgE9sGyHWLXL_Jz0E3aSWUyfTtPAW2MhJJKOvTU8CfdSVHrAmkQ1-s/s320/images+(2).jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b>Pony Beads</b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>SMALLER SEED BEAD SIZES</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So let's talk about these smaller seed beads, they are most likely what you will use in your projects. Most bead weavers use seed beads that are size 8/0, 10/0, 11/0, 12/0. 13/0, and 15/0. Seed beads smaller than size 15/0 are no longer produced, so any smaller than 15/0 are most surely antique! These smaller beads have many different names and can be confusing. I will try to simplify it below:</div>
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxPGEjQZDTLXTyrAJbjkoLPh15v_vIE9Iq8omF3m36HrlOhLQo7oyqejrTKE1kYhhFTDw2XUBFCCSdK8enVmSzJ8ORZSCr2EgxMQJj8uCCWsy_UWm4xoB-Z25L95021Q9RwxPkwb0cuXI/s1600/images+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxPGEjQZDTLXTyrAJbjkoLPh15v_vIE9Iq8omF3m36HrlOhLQo7oyqejrTKE1kYhhFTDw2XUBFCCSdK8enVmSzJ8ORZSCr2EgxMQJj8uCCWsy_UWm4xoB-Z25L95021Q9RwxPkwb0cuXI/s320/images+(3).jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b>Seed Beads!</b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b style="text-align: left;">COMMON SEED BEAD SHAPES</b><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Cylinder Beads: </b> These are what I most often use in my bead weaving. They come from a company called Myuki and they are referred to as "Delicas". Another company called TOHO also produces cylinder beads, they refer to theirs as "Treasures" or "Aikos". Cylinder beads are the best for bead weaving because the beads are a very consistent, even size and they stack well. They also have large holes so you can make many thread passes through them. They are the highest quality seed beads made today. Toho also makes a hex cut cylinder beads, and a company called Mill Hill (an American company) sells their brand of brand cylinder beads, but the beads are manufactured by Toho. A company called Preciosa also produces a delica and unica tube bead that have similar qualities.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>TAKE AWAY: Delicas, Treasures, Aikos, and Unicas are all basically the same thing! They are all cylinder beads with large holes, and great for bead weaving. The term "Cylinder" refers to the shape, not the size.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixfqRLSrh0YKprfEx_gagSB5skGZ4bDrgwl7DqESn-V1rMyMrUAnPpJ1n_mV1C13IdnftBbjBSEiym5MxhnG4fCoLKUGLyBbiEQhl4gyjv8iGL4lIwNq0LTK_ZNpLdbUAPB3EXhWrZl_Y/s1600/cy_bead.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixfqRLSrh0YKprfEx_gagSB5skGZ4bDrgwl7DqESn-V1rMyMrUAnPpJ1n_mV1C13IdnftBbjBSEiym5MxhnG4fCoLKUGLyBbiEQhl4gyjv8iGL4lIwNq0LTK_ZNpLdbUAPB3EXhWrZl_Y/s1600/cy_bead.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Rocailles (roh-kai) Beads</b>: Traditionally, rocailles are round, silver-lined seed beads with square holes. Nowdays Rocaille refers to to all round seed beads used for seed beading. They normally have round holes, but TOHO produces some rocailles with square holes which is supposed to improve the way they stack as you bead. The most popular rocailles are size 13/0 but they come in sizes 8/0 to 15/0. </div>
<div>
<b>TAKE AWAY: basically all round seed beads can be referred to as Rocialles, which like the term "Cylinder", refers to the bead shape, not its size.</b></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjygZ8BKd_-1zNg-YSrsHutMxAOCzRRTs4SBBV5K-9qRnTPVXW8-ZUbaguaPqgJK4cNCYOkG9irCSCWcbaxcZ5nXecJyd7s4UvzOdokYY4971ZncQIgYSTZ8TM96VtD9hpP-BJt1jidyy4/s1600/seed-beads-rocailles-1+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjygZ8BKd_-1zNg-YSrsHutMxAOCzRRTs4SBBV5K-9qRnTPVXW8-ZUbaguaPqgJK4cNCYOkG9irCSCWcbaxcZ5nXecJyd7s4UvzOdokYY4971ZncQIgYSTZ8TM96VtD9hpP-BJt1jidyy4/s1600/seed-beads-rocailles-1+(1).jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b>Rocailles</b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b>Charlotte Beads</b>: These beads are simply Rocailles that have a single facet. The term "Charlotte" refers to single-faceted beads, but can also be used with 2 or 3 faceted seed beads. The facets add shine and sparkle to the beaded piece. The Charlottes that have 2 or 3 facets are also referred to as two-cut and three-cut beads. Some people say that all charlottes are cut beads, but not all cut beads are charlottes. They insist that it must be a size 13/0 cut to be called a Charlotte. Others call any cut bead a Charlotte, but if a pattern calls for Charlottes with no size, you can bet it intends for it to be a size 13/0.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b>TAKE AWAY: Charlottes are size 13/0 seed beads (debatable!) with 1-3 facets. The term "Charlotte" </b><b>refers to the bead shape, AND the bead size.</b></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b>Charlottes: See the facets?</b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b>Two-Cut and Three-Cut Beads:</b> Seed beads that have 2 or 3 cuts on them for a more shiny, sparkly effect. They have a generally irregular look. <b> TAKE AWAY: Two-Cut and Three-Cut refer to the number of facets cut into a seed bead's face. The terms "</b><b>Two-Cut" and "Three-Cut" </b><b>refer to the bead shape, not its size.</b></div>

So pretty! I found it at <a href="http://beadsmagic.com/" target="_blank">Beadsmagic</a> and there are several more there, as well as tons of other bead weaving patterns all for free! I am going to attempt to make some of these as soon as I get a chance to play with my beads, which I hope will be this Wednesday or Thursday. Darn those responsibilities! Keeping me from my beads! I will post my progress later in the week. In the meantime, here are some more gorgeous beaded beads for you to ogle.<br />

Hi my lovlies! I have been on vacation the past 2 weeks! We went to Miami, and then on a cruise to St. Thomas, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and to The Grand Turk Island. We had an absolute blast and I will post some pictures as soon as I get them downloaded! I wore my jewelry I have made and got tons of compliments on it! Have you ever wanted to buy some beads, but had a hard time picking out the beads, or even the store to buy them in? I just experienced this phenomenon myself. I call it the bead buying blues (BBB). Keep reading to hear about my recent case of BBB and how I cured myself!!!<br />

Ah beads. Wonderful, shiny, sparkly beads! I love them so, but I often have a problem. When I finally get the green light to buy them, I never can settle on a store in which to do my shopping. There are so many awesome stores out there, but none ever seem to cover everything I need. I am really into bead weaving right now, which requires tons of beads, even if they are itty-bitty ones. I have tried making a list and sticking to it. This doesn't work! Sometimes a store will sell Delica's, but not Toho's. Or it will sell all kinds of rhinestones, but not rivoli's. So I end up making my purchase at 4 different stores. Its very frustrating, and, if they don't have free shipping, it can be downright cost-prohibitive.<br />
My answer? E-Bay!<br />
E-Bay now has a cart feature so it is just like shopping in one big store. Find something you like? Throw it in your cart and you can check out all at once! The bargains are there, just watch that shipping and you will be happily beading with your new beads in no time! <br />
What about you? Where do you get the best deals and the most complete inventory? Let's talk! Happy Beading!<br />

Hi there! We are off in a few hours to see my daughter Amber's Softball team play in a tournament! She is the pitching Coach at WV Wesleyan College. We couldn't be more proud of her! While on the road I will be crocheting away, the hubs is driving. Although crocheting and driving would be interesting! At any rate, I have finished a cocoon, a blanket, and a set of booties, I am working on a set of Monday through Friday bibs and booties that coordinate with the blanket. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started National Craft Month a few days behind, if you remember. So to catch up, I created a bunch of earrings, some necklaces, a bracelet, and a ring. I think I am all caught up now! I have also been working on a bear, and it is finally finished, so I will share him with you too! Here is the loot!</div>

MY PERSONAL CHALLENGE<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Wow! March is National Craft Month! Who Knew? There are several companies and crafters that are sponsoring "A Craft a Day" type challenges this month. I want to play!! I guess I am a tad behind, since it is already the 5th, but I can catch up! Read on for some challenges, plus my own personal challenge!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yay! National Craft Month, personally, every month is pretty much Craft Month around here, but this is official so I thought I better do something special or the craft Police might come and arrest me! So...something simple, but fun! I am challenging myself to make something crafty EVERY SINGLE DAY in the month of March. I am a smidgen behind, so I will need to catch up, so today, for catch up I am going to make 5 pieces of jewelry! After that, at least one crafty creation every single day this month. I will be sure to post my projects for you!</div>
